US Dollar Weakens as AI Sell-Off Shakes Forex Markets | TradeFX360

October 16, 2026

Wall Street's AI concerns are spreading beyond tech stocks and the currency market is feeling the pressure.

The US dollar is heading for its first weekly decline in more than a month, as falling artificial intelligence (AI) stocks raise fresh concerns about technology investment, corporate debt and the wider US economic outlook. On October 16, the US Dollar Index slipped to 101.77, putting it on track for a weekly decline of around 0.45%, according to Reuters.

Why the AI Sell-Off Matters for Forex

Investors have become increasingly concerned about whether companies investing heavily in AI infrastructure and data centres will generate enough profit to justify their spending. Those concerns have also spread into credit markets, prompting investors to reassess risk across financial assets.

What makes this move notable is that the US dollar has not benefited as much from market uncertainty as it might traditionally have done. Instead, expectations of a less aggressive Federal Reserve interest-rate outlook have added pressure to the currency.

Although recent US inflation data came in hotter than expected, cautious comments from Fed officials have encouraged markets to reconsider the likelihood of another near-term rate hike.

What Forex Traders Are Watching

  • US Dollar Index (DXY): Whether the dollar's weekly decline continues.
  • EUR/USD: The euro climbed to around $1.1235 as the dollar weakened.
  • USD/JPY: The yen recovered some ground, trading near 157.89 per dollar.
  • Federal Reserve: Upcoming policy signals and interest-rate expectations.
  • AI and credit markets: Whether technology-sector volatility spreads further across global markets.

The key question is whether the dollar's weakness will persist or prove to be a temporary pullback. Further developments in AI investment, US economic data and Federal Reserve policy could all influence the next move in major currency pairs.

Tech-sector turbulence. Shifting rate expectations. A dollar under pressure.
